After
six weeks of fighting between Azerbaijan and Armenia, on 10th November 2020, a ceasefire agreement was
signed between the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev,
the Prime Minister of Armenia, and the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin,
ending all hostilities in the area from 00:00 in Moscow Time. Azerbaijan won a huge victory that ended the
30-year-long occupation of Armenia and liberated Azerbaijan's territory.
The
ceasefire agreement came shortly after the liberation of Shusha, the
historical, second-largest city in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, by the
Azerbaijani armed forces. There was no way out for Armenia but to accept the
defeat. The Armenian government, therefore, admitted defeating and officially
ended the conflict.
Under the ceasefire agreement, first of all, the two sides have agreed to stop the war. Second, Armenia has agreed to withdraw from five occupied Azerbaijani areas immediately. That is, the 30-year occupation of the Azerbaijani lands will end by the first day of December. All in all, this is a big victory for Azerbaijan. It will certainly be written in golden letters in the history of our country. The ceasefire agreement provided the necessary conditions for a long-term and comprehensive solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh issue on a fair basis and in line with the interests of the people of both countries. From now on, the Azerbaijani government will initiate a process of normalization in the liberated regions and develop a system for the return of the displaced Azerbaijani people.
